For those of you who know me personally, you know I work as a barista. (If ya don’t know now ya know.) For someone who loves coffee as much as I do this is the dream job, however my skin tends to suffer. When you’re surrounded by numerous cleaning chemicals and coffee steam, there’s bound to be consequences. Knowing this, I go to work bare-faced 90% of the time. This helps but I also had to learn how to get my skin to love me again. Now, with proper care I actually prefer the no makeup look majority of the time even on my days off because my skin remains bright, healthy, and dare I say “radiant”. So.. what’s my secret?
No. 1: WATER. I make it a habit to drink lots of water daily, not only for my skin but for a number of health reasons that I’d be happy to rant about some other time. But overall, I find that drinking lots of water washes out all the toxins in my body-- this includes toxins that create skin impurities. I also discovered that if you’re dehydrated your skin will actually start to produce excess oils to try and prevent you from drying out. This is a major cause of blackheads, pimples, etc. that many people aren’t aware of. The best part is that this “skin savior” costs $0.00 :)
No 2. TOPICAL HYDRATION: Having a moisture mist of sorts to use throughout the day is a must. I honestly use it all the time, especially in the morning and at night to give my skin that extra hydration I miss out on during sleep. The particular one I use is an AMAZING finishing spray as well as part of my makeup routine. Not only does it keep me hydrated but it does a really good job of keeping my makeup in place throughout the day. Did I mention it’s cruelty free? <3 You can purchase the one I use online HERE, or if you want to receive a discount or trial size as a first time user, head on over to my contact page and I’ll hook you up.
No 3. FACE MASKS: I’ve gone through so many masks in my lifetime and a few months ago I finally found THE one that does what I want it to do. I love a lot of them by the “Say Yes To” brand depending on what my skin is in need of. However, my current favorite that I swear by is the detoxifying charcoal. It instantly brightens my face, cleanses, and doesn’t leave residue or dry me out which are unfortunate issues that I’ve had throughout my conquest to find the perfect face mask. I use this about once a week--especially after photoshoots or events when I’ve been wearing a lot of makeup and contouring, etc. Everyone has different skin types so you have to find the mask with a formula that works its magic on you. Once you do you won’t regret it. No matter what brand or formula you prefer though I advise you to ALWAYS go organic. Believe me, skincare with a ton of chemicals aren’t doing you any good.
So there you have it-- my top 3 “skin saviors” and they haven’t failed me yet! I hope at least one of these can help you embrace your natural beauty. It’s the best kind, after all. :) Stay radiant. xo
